Understanding the Danger and Taking the First Step for Tree Removal
The initial call came from a concerned homeowner in Metro Georgia. Several trees on their property had branches that are over hanging their neighbors roof. Large branches had already fallen, damaging their neighbor’s property and sparking tension. The homeowners could only imagine how much worse the damage could be if one of the massive trees toppled over during a storm.
Feeling overwhelmed by the situation, they turned to Todd Pate tree service for help. After discussing their concerns, we sent out a trained tree inspector to see what needed to be done and in what order. Easy to say “just cut down the tree and all the branches”, but we need do so in a safe and legally compliant manner. This is the Todd Pate Tree service approach to tree removal.
Navigating Georgia's Tree Removal Permitting Process
Because the tree was located in DeKalb County – the first step was to request a permit to have the trees removed. Before removing any trees within city limits requires official permission—especially for large ones that might impact community safety or aesthetics. Our team promptly submitted a permit request to the local authorities, detailing the need for the removal and emphasizing the potential risks to the property and surrounding structures.
Unfortunately, the original permit request was denied… I know, just what the neighbor needed – more stress, right !!
We sent out a Certified Arborist for options and guidance
When traditional permitting wasn’t enough, our next step was to bring in a Certified Arborist. This comprehensive assessment evaluated the health and structural risks of trees, providing an expert-backed analysis to strengthen the case for removal.
Once the arborist completed their report, significant points were raised about the danger the trees posed. The findings clearly outlined the potential for property damage and safety hazards, offering the local authorities the evidence they needed to reconsider. Armed with this professional assessment, the approval for tree removal was finally granted… Amen !!
Did we mention that the trees were too close to the power lines ?
With the permit approved, our focus shifted to executing the tree removal process safely and efficiently. Complicating the situation, the trees branches had grown close to utility lines, with some even touching them. Removing them without accounting for the power lines presented a safety hazard not just for our team but the entire neighborhood.
To solve this, we coordinated with Georgia Power to organize a “line drop.” This involved temporarily disconnecting the power lines near the trees, creating a safe working environment for the removal crew. Our team worked closely with Georgia Power to ensure minimal disruption to the homeowners and their neighbors.
It pays to have a professionally licensed tree company
With safety measures in place, the green light from authorities, and the power lines secured, it was time to begin the long-awaited tree removal.
Given the proximity of the trees to the house, our team relied on precision techniques and specialized equipment to ensure every tree and branch was removed methodically and without incident. Safety was our top priority, and we ensured the process unfolded smoothly, leaving the property safe and cleared of hazards.
By the time we wrapped up, the once-daunting trees were a distant memory, and the homeowner’s previously troubled relationship with their neighbor had a chance to heal over shared relief.
